What is Spanish for Specific Purposes (SSP)?

Spanish for Specific Purposes (SSP) is a subfield of Languages for Specific Purposes. It is an interdisciplinary branch of Spanish studies that explores the contexts and purposes in which Spanish is used. SSP incorporates aspects of linguistics, literary studies, cultural studies, intercultural communication, and critical pedagogies in both research and teaching. The ultimate goal of SSP is to create intentional, practical connections between the skills taught in the language classroom, academic and professional domains.

Mission Statement

The Spanish for Specific Purposes Network (SSPN) supports the teaching and scholarship of Spanish for Specific Purposes (SSP) in the United States and other regions of the Americas by connecting people in the field and sharing professional resources.
